Our School Community, History and Local Area

School History

St Mary's CE Junior School occupies the former site of St David's Secondary boys' school and was built in 1961.

The large site includes two playgrounds with play apparatus, basketball nets and football pitch, as well as a quiet seating area, pergola and a trim trail.
Local Area

There are an abundance of green spaces in the surrounding area, especially with the famous Alexandra Palace 5 minutes walk away.

We have a nature area with a pond that has tadpoles in, foxes and a resident heron, all of whom support the children's learning.

Mrs Liney takes groups to help garden and maintain our plants and flowers.
Inside the School

The teaching accommodation comprises of eight spacious classrooms laid out over three floors. When a secondary school Class 5H was once a science lab, 5C the Home Economics lab, and the year 3 classes the English rooms.

The excellent sports facilities in the Hall boast gym bars and the Hall also has a stage with professional lighting and sound equipment.
Resources and Facitities

We are fortunate to have a much used and well equipped music room, library, ICT room, medical room and parent's room.

Due to generous help from the Greig Trust and support from the PSA the site is well cared for.

Ian Bruce, our site manager, does a brilliant job of looking after all aspects of the schools upkeep.
